Abstract

Gordon N. Ray’s collection at the Pierpont Morgan Library includes the 1815 first issue of the first separate edition of Byron’s poetic texts for Hebrew Melodies, probably most famous for the opening lines: “She walks in beauty like the night.” After cataloging Hebrew Melodies in the Ray collection, I cataloged the Morgan Library’s copy of the original score by Isaac Nathan, an elegant production in folio, with the title page engraved by Wilson Lowry after a drawing by Edward Blare and an engraved dedication to Princess Charlotte.
