The illustration on the cover of this issue of RBML shows a violinist employing books for one of their many uses: as a music stand. The fact that the books are on a (probably dusty) window sill in the open air, and that they are in the proximity of pigeons, speaks to the carelessness that many people display when it comes to handling the items that we as bibliophiles are charged to protect. Two of the more pressing issues of our profession are preservation and conservation, subjects that we must keep abreast of. Those fields are ever changing, and many . . .
