Manufacturing Acrylic Book Stands

Abstract

Over the last year, the preparation staff at the Smith College Museum of Art has been called upon to fabricate more than 160 acrylic (Plexiglas) book stands for various rare book exhibitions. As we built these stands, we resolved a series of problems and determined a logical progression for fabricating them in larger numbers. The outline of the production process presented here should help libraries, archives, and museums with basic facilities to fabricate these book stands in-house at a very reasonable cost.
