From Eccentric to Sanctified: The Eclectic Exhibition Catalogues of 1989 and the Leab Awards

Abstract

During 1989, the Katharine Kyes Leab and Daniel J. Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Catalogue Awards for Excellence once again encouraged a lively competition for the recognition of design and writing of exemplary library exhibition catalogues. Now in its fourth year, this competition has developed, under the administration of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries, into a successful and highly visible program. The rich, crazy-quilt pattern represented in the following list gives some idea of the endless variety of ideas at the disposal of the rare book librarian or manuscript curator. . . .
