Abstract

Several recent events have powerfully affected special collections librarians and our colleagues. Library thefts, the death of two-highly prominent special collections curators, and the announced closing of the preeminent professional school for the education of special collections librarians are matters of deep concern and loss to RBML readers. These events are much on our minds as we open this issue, which contains articles touching on themes raised by two of them—education for special collections librarianship and the impact of individual curators on institutional collection building.
