Editor’s Note



This is the first issue of Rare Books & Manuscripts Librarianship devoted to a single topic and produced by a guest editor. The format, which permits in-depth analysis and multiple perspectives, is especially well suited to the exploration of complex subjects. The editor invites suggestions of future special theme issues for RBML.

Although a number of papers originally presented as talks at RBMS Preconferences have appeared in RBML, it is interesting to note that this issue derives from a seminar at the RBMS 1990 Preconference in Minneapolis. The high quality of the papers indicates that these sessions often contain material . . .
